Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site

Denison, TX

Susan Atherton Hanson created the hybrid house approach for furnishing the Eisenhower Birthplace House, where President Dwight D. Eisenhower was born in 1890, as part of her work as Project Director/ Interpretive Planner for the Eisenhower birthplace State Historic Site Interpretive and Architectural Master Plan. The hybrid house approach combined two established interpretive approaches:  the fully furnished historic house and an historical vignettes approach where each room presents a different interpretive theme through limited furnishings, interpretive panels and interactive media.  Dr. Hanson recommended interior finishes, furnishing schemes and the acquisition of further period artifacts to complete the hybrid house.
